Error: The Conversations Option is Not Available with Meta-Hosted WhatsApp Cloud API

Meta has identified an issue affecting advertisers using the WhatsApp Cloud API who choose the optimization for “Maximize Conversations”. Temporarily, this optimization option is not available in Ads Manager, resulting in the following error when attempting to publish campaigns:

“Conversations option not available: Currently, conversation optimization is not available as a performance goal for businesses running message campaigns with the Meta-hosted WhatsApp Cloud API.”

As a result, “Click to WhatsApp” ad campaigns that were being optimized to “Maximize Conversations” have been paused. Additionally, when creating new “Click to WhatsApp” campaigns, the optimization option is not available.

META’S RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

Meta suggests that affected advertisers use the “Link Click” optimization, directing ads to Facebook and Instagram users who are more likely to click the “Send Message” button on an ad.

If your ongoing campaigns were affected, it is recommended to duplicate and edit the optimization goal to “Link Click”.

It is important to note that “Click to WhatsApp” ads can still be published normally, as long as they are configured for “Link Click” optimization.
